Meet our Board of Advisors
Benny Ong is the founder of a financial advisory firm based in Singapore and is a member of Church of Our Saviour Singapore. He has more than 40 years’ experience in insurance, investment and estate planning and has lectured part time on the subject of Personal Financial Planning at the Singapore Institute of Management for several years.
Besides speaking and teaching in churches and financial institutions, he has also contributed numerous articles to various journals including the SGX monthly investment journal, Business Times of Singapore and the Impact Christian Magazine.
He is married with an adult daughter and has a one year old granddaughter.
Dr Ronald Wall is an award winning and nationally recognized financial researcher, educator and counselor. He has been involved in financial program development, education and counseling since 1974, when he began this aspect of his career by designing and developing adult financial education and counseling curricula under a contract with the National Institute of Education. After receiving a Ph.D. specializing in Family Economics from Kansas State University in Manhattan, he was hired at New Mexico State University, where he designed and taught graduate and undergraduate courses in financial education and counseling. In 1982, he joined the faculty at the University of Hawaii at Manoa as a Family Economics Specialist with the Cooperative Extension Service, USDA. During his tenure there, he researched and wrote over 200 publications, several of which received national acclaim.
Beginning in 1999, Dr. Wall developed and conducted a model family financial counseling program that served a broad spectrum of clients utilizing six neighborhood centers located in and around the community. In 1993, he was recognized as “Financial Counselor of the Year” by the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education. In 1997, he initiated the Financial Counseling Certificate Program for the purpose of training financial counselors and service providers for credit unions and other nonprofit organizations. In Financial Counseling in Practice, Dr. Wall attempts to crystallize the lessons learned in developing, conducting and evaluating the financial counseling provided to clients representing all walks of life.
Patrick Tan is co-founder of Havenport Asset Management, and has almost 30 years of asset management experience. Patrick was Co-Chief Executive Officer of Legg Mason Singapore, until the establishment of Havenport Asset Management via a management buyout. Except for a brief period between 2000-2003, he was Chief Executive / Chief Investment Officer through the various predecessor firms dating back to 1994, and through to the eventual management buyout and formation of Havenport Asset Management.
Between the years 2000 and 2003, Patrick was Managing Director of DBS Asset Management, the largest retail asset manager in Singapore at that time.
Patrick graduated with Bachelor of Business Administration from the National University of Singapore in 1987. He is also a CFA charter holder.
Brian Koh is the Director of NUS Enterprise (a cluster of the National University of Singapore).
Brian is an “Eco-system Builder”. He has built several eco-system platforms that support Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He was involved in building up the eco-system supporting the start-ups and entrepreneurs both on-campus and off-campus establishing the infrastructure, programs and networks for the eco-system. He has also successfully established overseas launch pad centres – US (Silicon Valley) and China (Beijing, Shanghai & Suzhou), and is now looking into helping companies expand into the regional markets
He has more than 25 years of experience in the Information Technology industry. Prior to NUS, Brian together with some friends were involved in pioneering Adroit Innovations from a start-up company to be a publicly listed company on the main board of the Singapore Stock Exchange in 2000. His last held position with Adroit Innovations was Director, Regional Business Development in which he managed, grew and established the Malaysian subsidiary; turning it into a profitable entity within one year.
Brian started his career with United Overseas Bank. His last position was Assistant Vice President with United Overseas Bank Group, Information Technology Sector. Brian was involved in various bank-wide strategic re-engineering projects which include UOB's Business Information Technology Strategy and Commercial Lending Re-engineering Project.
Brian holds a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Management Information Systems from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Paul Choo is currently the Vice President for Bridgestone China and Asia Pacific (CAP) operations overseeing its Human Resources, Legal and IT Division and is also a key member of the Executive Committee of Bridgestone CAP that is fully responsible for the strategy, direction and financial success of its regional business that spans across 10 countries in the China and Asia Pacific region. Concurrently, Paul also serves as the Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board of Bridgestone CAP and is a board member of the Board of Bridgestone Tire Indonesia.
He has worked for global MNCs such as Exxon Chemical, Lennox and Bekaert in varying senior roles and across all levels of Human Resources from operations to corporate HR up to and including Chief HR responsibilities and was based in Dallas, USA and Shanghai, China for almost 14 years on overseas assignments.
His broad HR business partnering and consulting skills includes leading strategy development, organization design, change management, leadership & executive development, diversity and inclusion programs, talent management strategies, executive compensation and the development of the HR function to meet sustainable business results.
Paul holds a B. A. in Psychology and Economics and a B. Soc. Sci. with Honours in Economics from the National University of Singapore. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management from the Singapore Institute of Management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Western Michigan University with Honours.
